Enslaved: I can't

Sorry dudes, I can't bring myself to play this one anymore. I got to the end of Chapter 4 this weekend and realised I was dragging myself through this on-rails game for its story. I was gonna just trudge along, but having seen your posts, I see no reason to be motivated.

Also, I only just figured out how the jump break thing works - we should use this more!

Edit: I just watched Chapter 5, and it was an interesting experience. Several parts of it made me wish I was actually playing it (like when Monkey shows Tripp his cloud), and certain parts just looked quite beautiful. Then it got to that car/vehicle segment, and the boss afterwards, and I instantly felt better about not playing the chapter. I might continue watching rather than playing, and for personal reference, Chapter 5 starts at 1:05. Anyway I'm interested in hearing what you guys think of this approach. Is it a cop out or can you guys appreciate it, given the particular game and a lack of time generally.

My favourite thing about this game is this. One of my girlfriend's nicknames for me is Monkey, so clearly hearing Tripp constantly shout "Monkey Help!" or "Monkey are you okay?" always made me smile. That should be a perk of playing a game, not my favourite thing about it.

sorry babes, I just can't do it anymore
In the spirit of things, and because I am genuinely interested in the story, I plan to still follow along and comment. This is simply not the kind of game I need to play all the way through to discover I love. The combat just never really improved for me, and I love games like DMC (old and new, including the Ninja Theory one) and Bayonetta.

So how will I follow along? I found this brilliant YouTube video which beautifully summarises the whole thing in 2 hours. Including some of those unfailable climbing sequences and some mech fights! So I get to see all the action.

Hrmm, I can't seem to embed this one specific video. There are loads of others on there that are longer and full gameplay videos, but I can't seem to get this one onto the blog. Anyway it's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjkyxK5KgT0

Onto the positive. This game does eyes better than a lot of newer games! I mean, it's always in pre-rendered (I think?) cut scenes, but they look better than L.A. Noire, Killzone and the glassy shit you see in most games.  The story is cool. All those things that Joker said about wanting to learn more about the weird Andy Serkis related flashbacks.
Another game where you couldn't really die while platforming, but executed better
In one way, this game reminds me a lot of the Prince of Persia reboot from the image above. I don't remember the details of the game except that you had this sidekick Elara(?) who would pretty much save you whenever you got into trouble. Fall off a platform or miss a jump? She'll rescue you and you could do it again. Die in battle? She'd instantly heal you and your enemy would also be healed and you'd start again. The point was that death meant that you'd have to keep redoing the bit you were stuck on until you beat it. Enslaved doesn't really give you that option: platforming is completely impossible to screw up. Yes, you can die in battles, but it's not like you gain anything from that experience to help you do it again, and you have to load back to the beginning of a boss fight or a checkpoint. Prince of Persia's revive was instantaneous. It didn't take you out of the game, it was just a statement of "You suck. Try again". Now I know it seems like I'm praising Prince of Peria, but it's actually another game I never finished. There was never really that much of a challenge and I kept putting it off thinking I would finish it later, and never got back to it.

We can do this, right? Quit a game? Whatever, I'm doing this. I'm gonna watch Chapter 5 now and catch up to where you guys are. It starts at exactly 52 minutes in the video.
