Just a reminder that we start tomorrow on (cue cool voiceover) BIOSHOCK. Let's try and do this by November 8, which hopefully is more than enough time given everyone's schedule.

Re: Walking Dead
If we're gonna play something episodic, i'd just prefer that we do it after all the episodes have been released.
I played Beyond and think it really missed the mark in a lot of respects but it definitely made me more interested in Heavy Rain and seeing what made that so popular and why Beyond was such a let down.
No Bioshock yet but i'm not too worried. I'll let you guys know when it does arrive in case you wanna start it early but it's a big week for new releases for me so it may be best if we just stick with the 1st as a start point.
Re: Walking Dead
That's fair. It could get messy cause the episodes will drop while we are in the middle of a game.
I will say that it is SO much better than the show, and really has nothing to do with it. Heavy Rain isn't a bad option. Beyond is also something I would look at.
Did your copy of Bioshock come in?
Re: Walking Dead
Not sure we should bother with the Walking Dead. I understand it's been hailed as a great game but it's also attached to a TV Show that i don't watch and it's the second season after we've missed the first. The episodes also come out on a rolling basis. I'd prefer something that's more of a one and done, at least initially.
With the new consoles coming out, i'll have my work cut out for me. Budgeting time to play a game is one thing. Budgeting time on a bi-weekly basis to play the next installment is annoying. Especially for a game that's more story driven without much action, when i don't know anything about the story. If we're gonna add a game like that to the list, i'd rather circle back to Heavy Rain to see what i missed.
Re: Walking Dead
Thing is, it's the second season of Walking Dead. Not sure when it will come out, but it will probably release while we are finishing Bioshock. I think we'll start Bioshock November 1 with the first two chapters done by November 8?

Are we talking about starting from Season 2? Would that be possible if you haven't played Season 1?.
I finally dug out my copy of Bioshock yesterday, excited to start that up.

Re: Walking Dead
I know I've suggested a bunch, but I feel Walking Dead and its episodic nature would be PERFECT video game club material. I plan on getting this immediately as it comes out (gonna be announced tomorrow). The episodes are staggered like 3-4 weeks apart.
Thoughts? We have Bioshock, Enslaved, any others on the docket?

Re: Bioshock - 1 November 2013
I think it's ironic that Joker doesn't really like the Mass Effect games!
(I was gonna say that he's never played them, but I know how much that frustrates him because he has so played the first 20 minutes of Mass Effect 3, you know, the part in the Xbox Live demo.)
Okay, sorry, video game snobbery done...for now

Re: Bioshock - 1 November 2013
For the time being, we will put an embargo on trashing "Joker" (that's his Gamepro alias) for not liking or finishing The Last of Us. Maybe after Bioshock, we can get Joker to play a ....... INDIE GAME.
Re: Bioshock - 1 November 2013
oooh, Bioshock. That sounds neat.

I'm the most mainstream gamer of the three. i've made my peace with the amount of crap that gets thrown my way because of it. I like big budget games, wanna fight about it? Because i will, and i'll be overly verbose when i do.
BioShock somehow slipped through my net though. unusual for a GOTY or a platinum hit but weirder things have happened, like the fact that i didn't enjoy The Last of Us. Or so i'm told. Often.
You know what's nice? Writing about games in the first person. I don't get to do that very often. It feels good to be "me" and not "we" for a change.
My copy of BioShock is en route. i guess i'll distract myself from the wait by helping Wallaby figure out how to use a blog.

Re: Bioshock - 1 November 2013
I kind of wish I played this game with a microphone nearby so everyone could hear the way I scream. Also, Wallaby, can we please remember that the other two people are on the other side of the pond, so we will actually be starting Bioshock on NOVEMBER 1, 2013.
I'm quite excited to re-start it. I don't really remember why I stopped, I just know that it gave my fiance dizzy spells. Maybe I just answered my own question. Anyway, I plan on trying to soak in all the audio tapes, letters and environment Bioshock has to offer.

Bioshock - 1 November 2013
We will begin playing Bioshock, the one great Bioshock, on 1 November 2013. HotFuj has started it, Joker has never played it, and I've finished it but looking to replay it before the Bioshock Infinite Rapture DLC comes out.
We will only play the first two chapters in preparation for a discussion of the game on 7 November 2013. Things to watch out for are: intense and extreme Ayn Rand themes, awesome steam punk weapons, and some of the creepiest bad guys you'll ever see in the Splicers and Big Daddies.
Looking forward to Joker's first impressions on this one, but given the way he describes The Last Of Us, maybe deep story telling experiences just aren't his thing...
